- Wash the fruit
- Carve an "X" in the bottom of each fruit (this will help with peeling later).
- Prepare a large bowl with ice water and set aside.
- Put about an inch or so of water in your large stock pot. Add a steamer basket to the pot, making sure that there is no water visible in the basket.
- Bring the water to a boil over high heat.
- Once the water is rapidly boiling, fill the steamer basket with the plums and cover the pot.
- Steam the plums until they are soft and can easily be pierced with a fork (just a couple of minutes depending on how ripe the plums were).
- Remove the plums and submerge in ice water.
- Peel the plums, cut into chunks and discard the seed or pit in the center and transfer to the food processor.
- Process the plums until it creates a puree. (You shouldn't need any additional water because of the high water content of the plums.)
- Use a spoon to fill up the ice-cube trays with the plum puree.
- Place trays of baby food in the freezer and freeze until solid, usually over night or up to 24 hours.
- Once frozen, pop the cubes of plum baby food out of the trays and place into either vacuum sealer pouches or freezer storage bags.
- Either vacuum seal the pouches or try to squeeze out as much air as possible out the freezer storage bags.
- Place back in the freezer until needed.
- Thaw as needed. Each cube is 1 ounce of baby food.
