Serves: 10
Ingredients
  • 1 cup low-fat (1% or 2%) milk, divided
  • 4 tsp. all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder
  • sea salt and fresh ground pepper, to taste
  • Optional: ½ tsp. crushed red pepper flake
Instructions
  1. Add ¼ cup milk and flour in a small saucepan before placing on the stove. Whisk to combine and continue until all flour lumps have dissolved.
  2. Place saucepan on the stove and set to medium heat.
  3. Add remaining ¾ cup milk and whisk to combine.
  4. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently.
  5. Reduce heat to low and whisk constantly for 1-2 minutes or until sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Remove from heat and add cheese, garlic powder, salt, pepper and crushed red pepper flakes (if using)
  7. Stir in a figure-eight motion until cheese is completely melted.
  8. Serve immediately
Notes
We like this paired with SUPERPRETZEL Soft Pretzel Bites. Prepare them according to package instructions.
As pictured I had prepared this for my 2½ year old daughter, so I did not add the optional crushed red pepper flakes.
Can be refrigerated for 3-4 days. Reheat in the microwave for 1 minute or so.
