Keep those New Year’s resolutions with a Berry Good Green Smoothie. Packed with kale, blueberries and raspberries, it is a superfood and antioxidant powerhouse recipe perfect for a healthy breakfast on just about any diet.
Yum
Raise your hand if you made a New Year’s resolution that included loosing weight and/or eating healthier? Me, me, me too!! Between the wedding, the honeymoon and then the holidays, I have let my usually healthy eating habits slide a bit and as you read in my last post, I am trying to make amends in 2016. I am not going uber strict or anything…I still want to enjoy food so no cardboard for me 🙄 I just intend to get back to cleaner eating and I am also getting some cardio and/or pilates in each day (at least I am trying…doing pretty good so far).
Here is where the Berry Good Green Smoothie comes into the picture! It is really kind of a basis for you to build your favorite smoothies based on what you might have in the house. You don’t need to follow this recipe exactly and feel free to get creative 😛
First things first, I am NOT drinking anything that tastes like grass or dirt, so don’t worry I am not suggesting that you do, either. I realize that some might turn up their noses to “green” smoothies, but I am telling you that they are really good if you add things to the smoothie that cover up the taste of the offending greens 😉
Did you notice that my “green” smoothie isn’t green at all???? That is because I add in lots of super healthy and yummy blueberries and raspberries that turn it this gorgeous deep purple color!! Tons of antioxidants in there besides the kale!!
I usually also add in a ripe banana to my smoothies, but it is totally optional. You don’t really taste the banana in the smoothie, but it helps to make it a bit creamier and sweet.
A good blender is a must, you really need a decent blender to get your smoothie nice and smooth and not gritty. Here is one that is very similar to the one I am currently using (mine’s just an older model): http://amzn.to/1PH3Gjg
Here is your recipe for Berry Good Green Smoothie:
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 2 cups kale
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 cup raspberries
- 1 large banana, peeled and in large chucks (optional)
- 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 1 tbsp. honey (also optional)
- Add all ingredients to a blender.
- Blend on the highest speed setting until the smoothie reaches a creamy consistency.
- Pour into serving glasses (fancy stem-less wine glasses like these are fun)
- Enjoy cold!
Here are a couple of other smoothie recipes for you to try for some variation:
What are your New Year’s resolutions? What is your favorite smoothie combination?

I know making a resolutions of losing weight is not realistic so I don’t do it. I do want to eat healthy and for most part I do since I’m home rarely go out where the temptation is. Would love to try this smoothie since smoothies are my go to meal idea when I want something fast!
