3 Simple Self Care Tips for Stay-At-Home Moms | Easy daily actions to incorporate into your routine to be the best at the most important and most challenging job that you will ever have! #welchs #ad
When I left my job in the nonprofit sector to be able to be at home every day with Baby Girl, I had no idea what I was in for! My plan was to stay at home with her because I really didn’t want to do the daycare thing and then also focus on this blog to continue contributing to our family’s income on some level. I didn’t think that it would be easy necessarily and I hoped it would be rewarding (it definitely is), but I had no idea how challenging it would be…let’s just keep it real mamas 😉
After Baby Girl was born, not only was I dealing with the challenges of having a newborn and being a new mom, but I also was recovering from major surgery (c-section) and postpartum anxiety! To say that I was overwhelmed was an understatement. The first week Hubs was home, but then he had to go back to work and I was home all day, everyday, just Baby Girl and I.
As I healed both physically and mentally, I learned 3 Simple Self Care Tips (through trial and error) that I now strive to incorporate into my daily routine. These habits have really helped me to stay in tip top shape so that I can tackle the challenges of being a stay -at-home mom.
Get out of the house everyday!
I cannot emphasise this enough, get out of the house every day! It doesn’t have to be a huge trip, but do something! You don’t have to go and spend a bunch of money either. Find the free things that you can do in your community! Baby Girl and I love to go to storytime at the local libraries 🙂 They are totally free and great for both of us! She is getting exposed to reading and learning a love for reading at an early age. She also gets to socialize with other children and I get to spend some time with other mamas 🙂
Mommy and Me classes are another great idea! Sometimes our “daily outing” is just a trip to the grocery store or Target and that is great! I usually just walk around the store a bit longer and walk up and down the aisles to extend the trip! Baby Girl is distracted by all the different lights, things and people to look at and guess what? You are getting some exercise (hint this is leading to one of my next Simple Self Care Tips).
Another one of our favorite outings is to head to our local parks and recreation areas! Enjoy the fresh air!! Put the baby in the stroller and walk, walk, walk!! She will enjoy it and you can enjoy moving your body! Another bonus is that the fresh air will help with good naps!! I didn’t believe this at first when I read it, but I have tried it and IT WORKS!! Whenever we go on a nice long walk, she sleeps better that day 🙂 We are very lucky that our area has great parks, wildlife refuge and management areas that are scenic and FREE!! Check out your local parks and recs, chamber of commerce and other local guides to see what you might have in your area! I bet you will be surprised 🙂
Find ways to add small amounts of exercise throughout the day!
I have already talked a bit about this in my last tip, but seriously it doesn’t have to be big! Walking is a great way to get your body moving and it is good for you and baby! Those endorphins get flowing for you, making you happy and energized!! The blood gets flowing, which is great for your heart too 🙂 And as I mentioned above, it will help with baby’s sleep too 🙂
Not only do I love walking, but I also like to add some simple exercises into my daily routine. No need for special equipment or an expensive gym memberships, your own body weight will do just fine 🙂 Now this one might sound a little silly, but it works! Throughout the day, after each trip to the restroom, I take 30 seconds to do some pushups and squats. All you need to do (after washing hands, of course) is to get into a inclined pushup position off of the sink’s countertop and do 10 pushups. Then get into a standing position with your feet shoulder width apart and do 10 squats. That’s it! Quick and easy, but it will add up throughout the day IF you are making sure to do my third Simple Self Care Tips.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!!
We all know that we should drink more water! Not only is it essential for all our bodily functions, great for helping to keep our skin looking young, but it helps us keep our calories in check and may help us lose weight too! Did you know that a lot of times, when you think you are hungry…you are actually thirsty??
I do try to keep a large glass of water with me at all times to sip on throughout the day. It also has a lid on it, so I can take it with me on the go AND it has a straw in it to help me drink more. Yes, you do drink more if your glass has a straw in it 😉
But, I know that water gets boring…sometimes you need something with flavor! That is why I was excited to see Welch’s 100% Grape Juice with Coconut Water at my local Publix during my last shopping trip! They had both flavors White Grape Mango and Tropical Berry Grape and I decided to pick both of them up! I have always been a fan of the Welch’s brand as I know it is made right here in the USA, with family farmers and Welch’s grapes. This brand new product with amazing benefits, Welch’s 100% Grape Juice with Coconut Water, was something that I knew I needed to add to my busy, stay-at-home-mom lifestyle!
I have tried coconut water in the past and just couldn’t stomach the taste! I knew how good it was for me and wanted to incorporate it into my diet, but struggled to get myself to drink it! That is why this Welch’s 100% Grape Juice with Coconut Water is perfect for me! It has the great taste of 100% Welch’s juice with all of the added benefits of coconut water and naturally 30% less sugar! Only 100 calories per serving and 2 servings of fruit, with no artificial flavors or sweeteners.
I love to enjoy the juice ice cold! Total refreshing goodness 🙂 Take it on the go when you are getting out for your daily outing or walk! I also like to enjoy it as a popsicle for an afternoon snack or post workout snack by freezing the juice in popsicle molds (the kiddos love these too)!! I also love to blend it into smoothies 🙂 YUM!!
There you have it! I hope you have enjoyed these 3 Simple Self Care Tips for Stay-At-Home Moms! I hope that they are easy things that help you be your best you! And cheers to you mama!! You are rocking the most challenging but rewarding job out there 🙂
