If I could give everyone just one health “tip,” it would be to drink more water! Aim to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water per day in water. An example of this is if you weigh 150 pounds, you should be drinking at least 75 ounces of water per day. I know that probably sounds like a lot of water for someone who isn’t used to it, but really once you give your body some time to acclimate to it and you make it a habit…it’s easy 🙂
Most of us walk around on a daily basis in a state of chronic dehydration.  It can be argued that many ailments, aches, pains and even diseases can be helped or even cured by just drinking more water. Everything from anti-aging (yes ladies…no expensive creams or serums here) to headaches, digestive issues, inflammation, arthritis to diseases such as hypertension and heart disease can helped by increasing your water consumption. Water flushes toxins that are built up in the body out and this allows all of our organs and systems to run better.
Try these suggestions on drinking more water:
- Drinking 2 glasses of water first thing in the morning helps activate internal organs.
- Drinking 1 glass of water before a meal will help digestion.
- Drinking 1 glass of water before taking a shower helps prevent high blood pressure.
- Drinking a glass of water before bed helps prevent strokes or heart attacks.
This is one of the first lessons that I learned in my training to be a health coach and I believe that it is a crucially important one. I have seen this in my own health as I made it a priority in my own life to drink as much water as possible each and every day. One example is that my chronic headaches/migraines are all but gone…so meet your new BFF, water!
So I hear ya saying, “I just don’t like the taste of water…” Well, that is where water infusions come in 🙂 Not only do they help to liven up plain ol’ water, but you get the added benefit of some extra vitamins and minerals 🙂 Win, win, right? Add your favorite fruits, veggies, herbs and such to your water to give it some fun flavor. Pictured above is a water infusion of cucumber, green apple and mint. Yum, right? You can even put these together in a large mason jar (as pictured above) or another large container and keep in your fridge to sip on throughout the day! Try these other yummy water infusions:
- Ginger + Lemon
- Cucumber + Mint
- Apples + Cinnamon Stick
- Lemon + Lime + Orange

- Honeydew + Cantaloupe
- Blueberry + Pomegranate
- Blackberries + Mint
