Ok, after that burger I think that we all need to help, ahem, flush out the system (if you will and sorry for bringing that up). Enter a staple of my diet, the green smoothie. I have one of these just about every morning. I fix it up and take it with me to drink in the car on the way to work. They might not look great but they do taste good, I promise. All you taste is the fruit, let me repeat that, all you taste is the fruit…you don’t taste the spinach or other greens at all!!!
Let me introduce you to my little friend, the NUTRiBULLET. No, I am not getting paid by them to write about their product. I just happen to like it and use it on a daily basis. So what is a NutriBullet? Straight from their website, “The NutriBullet System is quite simply the best product out there to make healthy, nutritious drinks that can help you fight and prevent disease, lose weight, relieve joint pain, promote healthy, younger-looking skin, and even add years to your life. The secret is the NutriBullet’s exclusive extractor technology which uses a 600 watt motor with cyclonic action and the patented extractor blades. This technology breaks down and pulverizes the stems, seeds, and skins where most of the essential nutrition lies – unlike what juicers and blenders do. Plus, with the NutriBullet, many of our customers have seen an improvement in their health within the first week once they started using it. As you know, juicers make juice and blenders make smoothies. But the NutriBullet makes supercharged NutriBlasts – and by drinking just one NutriBlast a day, you can give your body the vitamins and nutrients it needs to fight and prevent disease.”
Now I am not making any crazy claims here, but I really do like the product and use it consistently.
It’s pretty easy, just add your ingredients, pop on the blade, set it in the base and press down. Less than 30 seconds later, you have a smoothie ready to go!
- 1 cup frozen peach, peeled and sectioned
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup spinach
- 1 Tbsp chia seeds
- 1 Tbsp PB2
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- ½ water
- Add your spinach or other leafy green to your blender or nutribullet.
- Add the banana, peach, chia seeds and PB2.
- Add the almond milk and water
- Blend away till it reaches a creamy consistancy.
- Enjoy!!
Couple of notes:
- I use frozen fruit because I like my smoothies to be really cold. You certainly don’t have to do this but I suggest it. For this particular smoothie, the peaches were freshly picked at a nearby peach orchard (one of the many reasons I love living in the south). I peeled them and frozen into small portions.
- The chia seeds add omega-three fatty acids, some good fat & fiber and they help to keep you fill fuller longer!!
- PB2 – you are probably are wondering what the heck this is? Well it is powdered peanut butter. Check it out here. Its amazing stuff! It has 85% less fat and calories than regular peanut butter but tastes just like the real stuff. I think it is the “secret” ingredient in my smoothies…It just gives them a great creaminess. You should try it:)
Now it’s your turn…what is your favorite smoothie combination?
