Spicy Avocado Salsa Verde is the perfect addition to your game day spread. A hint of sweet, spicy, creamy, healthy & extremely versatile and easy to make. Break out the chips…but you better buy two bags because this salsa is gonna be the BIG winner in the battle of game day snacks!
Who else is uber (okay, did I really just use the word “uber”?? and where did that come from??) excited that football season is upon us? Me, me, me (both hands raised and cheering)!! I L-O-V-E me some football – more specifically college football!! And although I bleed orange and blue because am a University of Florida Gator, I will root for any SEC school that isn’t playing us this week. I will watch just about any college football game that is on TV. I love the spirit and passion that you see from the college players, coaches and fans! I do watch the NFL on Sunday too, but I don’t really have a team that I’m all-in for and I just don’t get as excited.
Saturdays are awesome in my world from September – December!! And then for the last party of December through the first weeks of January you have all those bowl games and more excuses for Game Day foods. Ok, now you have my real reason for loving football so much – game day food!! I am a football fan too. I get the game, for the most part, and understand what is happening on the field. Yes, I do yell at the screen when I think the ref has made the wrong call and cheer wildly when my Gators make a good play, but I do love the food.
This is how a typical football Saturday pans out: We make a bunch of appetizer or finger foods early in the afternoon. Then we set them up buffet-style on the bar in my parent’s kitchen and then we just graze on food for the rest of the afternoon and evening! We sip on our beverages of choice, cheer on our teams and eat. Repeat, repeat, repeat… Doesn’t that just sound like the perfect plan?
Spicy Avocado Salsa Verde is a new addition to our game day lineups, but one that isn’t going to be riding the bench (puns intended…he, he). Frequent players in the game include my Avocado Cilantro Salsa, Mom’s Beer Chicken Dip, various wings or chicken tenders or whatever I have found on Pinterest that week that looks interesting. I actually first made Spicy Avocado Salsa Verde for an event that we were having at work after stumbling on a version from one of my favorite bloggers, Pinch of Yum, and Lindsay’s Avocado Tomatillo Dip. It was such a hit!! One taste and I knew right then that I found the next star player on our game day spread!
See those chips in the background of the pic? Meet my new favs: Black Bean Tortilla Chips!! They are gluten-free, crunchy, salty (but not too much) and fabulous! Thank you Target 🙂

I can’t even tell you how excited I was to find this. I don’t know why I’ve never paired these two. I make them salsa verde and guacamole and love them both. Brilliant! Pinning! If you have a free moment, I would love it if you would stop by and link it up with us at Foodie Fridays!
